What Do We Eat

Let’s consider everyday products regarding to their nutrient value and belonging to the health issues.

Margarine and animal fat contain equal amount of fats. But soft margarine is richer in unsaturated fats, so it more wholesome than animal fat and hard margarine.

Sausages and pies contain much saturated fats, so it is better to reduce these products in menu. A portion of pork pie (1/3 oz.) contains about 8 teaspoons of fat, and a good piece of sausage contains 4 teaspoons of fat.

Hard cheese is rich not only in calcium (building material for teeth), but also in saturated fats, so it would be more healthy to choose cheese with reduced fats in a store.

Fried potato is believed to be rather fat food. Coarse potato chips are less fatty than French fries, and deep-fried potato is fatter than baked one. The best variant is potato baked skin on (“in jacket”). Fried potato with high fat and salt levels can be even dangerous for your body.

Cold cereals are rich in dietary fiber, vitamins and various minerals (e.g. iron). Oats (oat porridge or unsweetened muesli) is also quite wholesome.

Cottage cheese is one of the most favorable products for heart health, for it contains little fat, but much calcium and protein.

Eggs contain much vitamins, minerals and proteins, as well as cholesterol, so it would be more reasonable to reduce amount of eggs in menu to 3-4 a week.

Baked beans is health-giving wholesome dish. Beans contain much dietary fiber and little fats, making any dish quite safe for heart.

Hamburgers are more preferable when made of lowfat meat and grilled.

Animal fat contains much saturated fat, and when eaten too much it can cause a cholesterol levels increase in blood, that is not good for heart.

White bread. It’s a good idea to make bread a part of our everyday menu. But if possible choose black or brown bread, which contains more vitamins, minerals and fibers.

Strawberry. It is better to eat strawberry with yogurt rather than with cream, for cream contains much saturated fat.

Fresh fruits are rich in vitamins and fiber, they are quite wholesome and health-giving product, they are worth to be included in everyday menu.

Roasted chicken, when cooked with its skin off, is less fat, thus more safe for heart. It is better to use chicken for stuffing pies, rather than a separate dish.

Roasted bacon is better to be grilled. This case it is covered with thick layer of fat and contains less cholesterol.

Sweets contain much sugar and fat, they damage teeth and affect heart work. Fresh fruits (apples, tangerines) are perfect sweets substitutes!

Doughnuts, deep-fried and frosted with sugar, are high-calorie and can cause weight growth.

Fish mix is perfect filling for roll or sandwich. Fish is highly important dietary product, containing much proteins and little fat. Fish is very wholesome for child’s growing body.

Shredded cabbage is an excellent vegetable dish. Try to dress it (as well as other vegetable salads) with low fat mayonnaise or yogurt.
